OCR API: Six new OCR languages

With the January 2025 OCR API update we added support for six new OCR languages to our OCR Engine 2:

  • Korean OCR
  • Japanese OCR
  • Russian OCR
  • Ukrainian OCR
  • Thai OCR
  • Vietnamese OCR

We also added vertical text recognition:

Important: To use the new OCR languages and vertical text recognition you need to use the language="auto" parameter in your API call. The reason for this is that only with language="auto" you use the updated OCR Engine 2 that contains the new languages. Remember to also select the OCR Engine 2 with the ocrengine=2 parameter.

Nice features, thank you for continuing to improve your service. But seems these new features aren’t deployed to paid PRO endpoints, are they?

Yes. We always deploy to the free endpoint first, and then, once all looks good and stable, update the PRO endpoints.

Having said that, things look good :slight_smile: → So we plan to update the PRO endpoints next week. I will update this forum post once it is done.

The PRO2 endpoint has been updated. PRO1 will follow tomorrow.

The PRO1 endpoint has been updated, too. With this update, the rollout of this new feature is complete.
