"CopyFish Error – ‘No Internet Connection’ or ‘OCR Request Timed Out’ (Non-Techy User Here!)"

Hi everyone,

Please don’t speak to me in too much tech language—I’m not super familiar with how this stuff works (I don’t even know what OCR means), I just know it’s what lets me copy words off the screen.

Lately, when I try to use the CopyFish Google extension, I often get one of two error messages:

  • “No internet connection, or can not reach OCR server”
  • “OCR request timed out”

My internet is working just fine, and occasionally, if I keep trying enough times, my request eventually works. But most of the time, it just won’t cooperate.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Reinstalling the extension from the Chrome Web Store
  • Re-copying the image/text several times
  • Making sure my Wi-Fi is solid (it is)

For context, I’m on Windows, and here’s what I see under my settings:

  • File Access Status: Installed (1.0.12)
  • Desktop Screenshot Status: Installed (1.3.6)

I’m not sure if I’m supposed to install the “XModules” thing—I don’t know what that is, so I haven’t touched it.

I’d really appreciate any help—especially if you can explain it in plain English! Thanks in advance.

Exactly. And because that “reading” process happens on a remote server, it requires a stable handshake with the API.

The “Timeout” error is basically the server saying “I’m too busy to read this right now.” Since you are on the free tier, this happens during peak hours. You don’t need to reinstall or check your XModules; usually, you just have to wait 10 minutes and try again.
